Sour Cherry and Chocolate Cookies from the Bourke Street Bakery cookbook.
Any Sydney resident knows that the Bourke Street Bakery is basically a
“kiss the ground and be thankful” you live here type of joint. For my birthday all I wanted was
their new cookbook, which I didn’t receive…that is for a week or a two! I love late birthday presents the most!
So thank you amazing brother and sister Zawada for some how reading my mind!
The recipes are tricky and I think that is a good thing, it shows the reason for the unbelievably delicious carrot cake and the melting, buttery and flakey yet stable pastry in those ginger brulee tarts. Agggh… what else do they make – the most delicious sausage rolls, bread and the best pies this side of East Lynne petrol station…
So far I have made the banana cake with caramel sauce, the carrot cake, the basic chocolate cake and the below recipe of my favourite thing they make – the Chocolate and Sour Cherry Cookie. The cakes I have made twice each and the second time around they were all much better. I don’t want to share all of their recipes (they would take me so long to transcribe! And although I’m sure they are doing ok – I think they deserve the book sales!!

By Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. As eaten at The River Cottage with authentic Devon Clotted Cream,
and again by Tubby, with Australian cream… Still delicious!
